Jürgen Joachim, President of the host canoe-regatta -club, is pleased that the President of the Bundestag will accompany and support the World Cup as a patron. "Mrs. Bas immediately gave her consent to our request. It is good to have the woman, who holds the second highest office in the Federal Republic and is a convinced Duisburg citizen, with in the boat. The Canoe Regatta Club organizes its regattas on a voluntary basis, which attract worldwide attention. In addition, we see the assumption of the patronage as an appreciation for Duisburg as a sports city and for the regatta course as the Wimbledon of canoe racing."

Duisburg is hosting the World Racing Championships on behalf of the German Canoe Federation for the sixth time in total. The last time the best canoeists paddled for medals and title honors on the Wedau course was in 2013. The organizers are expecting top athletes from more than 80 nations to take part in the regatta, which also serves as a qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. As a contribution to inclusion in sport, the world federation ICF has determined that the title bouts of the para-canoeists are a natural part of the overall competition program.
